Metalcrafter and business owner Ernie Maluschnig, is a perfectionist who loves challenges. Combining skills and experience, he gains satisfaction from creating visually successful tactile forms out of materials which are technically challenging and unforgiving.   His sculptures evolve from observation of our natural environment and the elements that shape it.

Born in Wellington, Ernie has always been inspired and challenged by sport and the outdoors. His 40 year history of working with metal began assisting his father, an Austrian watchmaker and jeweller. He became intrigued by the scope of metalworking through classes at school and began restoration of a Classic car at 14. Later he qualified as a fitter/welder and in 1997 established Metalworks Wanaka to combine his artistic talents and metalworking skills. He has been resident in Wanaka since 1988.
